3D Texture Reconstruction from Extensive BTF Data

چکیده
Textures often result from complicated surface geometries. We propose a method that extracts such geometry from raw BTF data. Exploiting the huge amount of input data, only a few and rather weak assumptions about reflectance and geometry suffice. A key element of our approach are viewpoint robustness of reflectance features. We propose a few and compare them for 3D reconstruction.

The bidirectional texture function (BTF) is the recent most advanced representation of visual properties of material surface. It specifies its appearance due to varying spatial, illumination, and viewing conditions. Corresponding enormous BTF measurements require compact mathematical representation for visual fidelity preserving compression. We present a novel BTF model based on a set of underl...

In order to produce visually appealing digital models of cultural heritage artefacts, a meticulous reconstruction of the 3D geometry alone is often not sufficient, as colour and reflectance information give essential clues of the object’s material. Standard texturing methods are often only able to overcome this fact under strict material and lighting condition limitations. The realistic reconst...
متن کاملBTF Modelling Using BRDF Texels
The highest fidelity representations of realistic real-world materials currently used comprise Bidirectional Texture Functions (BTF). The BTF is a six dimensional function depending on view and illumination directions as well as on planar texture coordinates. The huge size of such measurements, typically in the form of thousands of images covering all possible combinations of illumination and v...
